  • RHODES COLLEGE - ATHLETIC FIELD LIGHTING - MJR 2024-017

Description of Work: The proposed improvements for Area C include obtaining approval for several key upgrades. These include installing a new artificial turf soccer field with a grandstand and press box along University Street. Additionally, the plan seeks to provide outdoor sports lighting in addition to the existing lighting for Crain Field and the Dunavant tennis complex. The new lighting is intended for the new soccer field and the existing Stauffer baseball field along Jackson Avenue, the current softball field at the corner of Charles Place and Jackson Avenue, and the Mason Field Lacrosse Field along Charles Place. A new soccer field, outfitted with artificial turf, alongside a grandstand with a seating capacity for up to 1000 individuals, are recognized as allowable developments within the Rhodes College Planned Development. Presently, this area hosts an informal soccer field, with the proposed replacement aimed at enhancing the campus with superior recreational and athletic facilities. According to the project's preliminary plan, the new soccer field and grandstand are positioned within the established minimum side setback requirements along University Street and Jackson Avenue.
